John Mizia leads the Advanced Biomass Combustion Lab at the Powerhouse Energy Institute and is also the CEO and co-founder of Qapture Inc. His research interests include emissions reduction technologies for biomass combustors, thermal energy to electric conversion systems, low cost combustor materials and manufacturing techniques, developing world cookstoves, and systems engineering. In addition to managing the biomass combustion lab John also provides rapid manufacturing, system engineering and data acquisition services to the CSU research community.
John joined the Energy Institute team in 2012 after spending almost a decade in the aerospace industry at United Launch Alliance. During his time at ULA John gained extensive manufacturing, design, and testing experience working on the Atlas V Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle. In 2008 John joined the launch support team as the booster propulsion Tiger and was involved in several launch campaigns including the high profile NASA Curiosity Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission. John Mizia earned his MS in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University (2003), and a BS is Business Management and Finance from Iowa State University (1996).
