Grant re-validation moves hydrogen project forward

October 2025 | Back to Powerhouse Post

In, 2024 CSU received a grant to commission a public hydrogen fueling station. This project, in partnership with New Day Hydrogen, is establishing three hydrogen fueling stations on the Colorado Front Range under the Federal Highway Administration’s Charging & Fueling Infrastructure program. New Day Hydrogen recently announced the grant’s re-validation and their new partnership with HyperCellX (formerly known as Element One Energy).

The fueling station network supports energy resilience and reliability through direct infrastructure development. The Powerhouse Energy Campus will be home to the Northern Colorado refueling station, close to the I-25 corridor. Additionally, the station’s location at the Powerhouse supports research and innovation through the Energy Institute’s HYPER Test Bed. These goals are a testament to the Energy Institute’s three pillars of carbon and energy solutions, experiential learning, and entrepreneurial scale up.
