About Bryan

Bryan Rainwater is a Research Scientist in the Zimmerle research group through the Methane Emissions Technology Evaluation Center (METEC) at Colorado State University (CSU). He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Atmospheric and Oceanic Science from the University of Colorado Boulder, and a B.S. in Atmospheric Science, Physics, and Applied Mathematics from the University of Nevada, Reno.

His research focus is methane emissions from the oil and natural gas supply chain and test programs to evaluate the effectiveness of systems to detect and/or quantify methane emissions. Many of his projects specifically emphasize development of technologies for autonomous methane monitoring and controlled release systems. These projects include the design and scientific oversight of a new controlled release underground pipeline testbed for methane/hydrogen, a deployable multi methane sensor package for fundamental sensor/solutions field performance evaluations/comparisons, design/optimization of deployable controlled release systems, and development of various mobile autonomous measurement platforms including aerial, ground, and hybrid vehicles.

Prior to joining METEC, his background was in instrumentation development and automation across atmospheric ground-based remote sensing, in situ aircraft total water content measurements based on tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy, and multiple aerosol measurement, sizing, imaging, and calibration systems/technologies, both in academic and industry capacities.
