K-12 Outreach Events

STEM Fridays

Get students excited about STEM through real-life applications. Regional schools are invited to bring 30 students to CSU for a Friday morning lab project facilitated by CSU students who are studying to become teachers.
• Get Energized! is an activity that explores rechargeable batteries and solar cells.
• Regenerate! explores how regenerative braking works in electric vehicles. Solar Cars is an engineering design project to design, build, and race model solar-powered vehicles.

Collaboration with Schools

You can learn how to conserve energy in your schools by engaging in more energy-conscious behavior. An Energy Institute-affiliated faculty member who studies human behavior and energy usage, Dr. Jeni Cross has worked for the last several years with the Strategic Sustainability Team in the Poudre School District (PSD). As a member of that team, Dr. Cross has helped PSD high schools develop plans for engaging building occupants in energy conservation.

Field Trips

The Energy Institute is pleased to host school tour groups as well as students from CSU and other universities for visits to the Powerhouse Energy Campus. Visitors get an up-close look at the innovative and exciting research taking place at the Powerhouse.

Contact the Energy Institute for more information about these activities and how to get involved.
