Powerhouse Energy Campus

High-Powered Computing System Coming to Powerhouse Energy Campus

October 2025 | Back to Powerhouse Post

The Powerhouse Energy Campus will soon be home to a new energy-efficient high-powered computing system. Once complete, the system will support research across campus.

Additionally, the placement of the system at the Powerhouse Energy Campus also affords researchers the unique opportunity to explore power and energy solutions for data centers, including heating, cooling, and grid resilience.

This work is especially timely with the rise of AI and the accompanying power needs of data centers. Some researchers estimate that between now and 2030, data centers are expected to account for almost half of the increase in electricity needs. and the construction of new data centers at an unprecedented rate.

Once complete, the high-powered computing system will be included on tours showcasing the world-class research taking place inside.

The project is a collaboration

Partners across CSU came together to make this project a reality, including:

  • Data Science Research Institute
  • Department of Mathematics
  • Division of IT
  • Energy Institute
  • Facilities Management
  • Office of Vice President for Research
  • Rapid Prototyping Lab
  • REACH CoLab
