Center for Water Energy Sustainability

Every source of baseload power – hydropower, nuclear energy, coal or natural gas - used in the United States requires the use of water, whether it’s to extract methane from the subsurface or boiling it to turn a turbine to make electricity.

CSU’s Center for Energy and Water Sustainability researches the link between these two critical resources and develops practical solutions to water problems related to energy.

The center’s researchers also provide objective information about the quantity of water resources available and used in the development and production of energy in Colorado and the intermountain region of the western United States.
